VR, or The Commercial Workers' Union, embraces over 20,000 members in more than 100 occupations (see also What is VR? and What VR does for you).

VR's aim is to improve and defend the position of shop and office workers in the region by working to secure better rights, educational opportunities and wages and other terms of service for wage-earners in Iceland. VR negotiates collective agreements for its members and represents them in dealings with government authorities and other bodies. 

VR´s president is Kristinn Örn Jóhannesson.

Location and office hours

The main offices of VR are on the 1st floor and 2nd floor of Hús verslunarinnar, Kringlan 7, 103 Reykjavík, Tel. 510 1700, fax: 510 1717. General reception and services, e.g. covering wage disputes, payment of sickness benefit and holiday pay and education are on the 1st floor, while the management and financial departments on are the 2nd floor. Opening hours are from 08:30 to 16:30 daily.
