VR trade union

VR is a commercial and office workers' union embracing over 20,000 members in more than 100 occupations (see also What is VR? and What VR does for you). VR's aim is to improve and defend the position of shop and office workers in the region by working to secure better rights, educational opportunities and wages and other terms of service. VR negotiates collective agreements for its members and represents them in dealings with government authorities and other bodies

VR´s president is Kristinn Örn Jóhannesson.

Location of VR’s offices and general business hours

  • The Union’s main offices in Reykjavík are on the ground floor and first floor in Hús verslunarinnar at Kringlan 7, 103 Reykjavík. All general services, such as the services provided by the employment terms department, sick-pay fund, holiday pay fund and vocational training are located on the first floor. The offices in Reykjavík are open daily from 08:30 to 16:30.
  • In Akranes, the office at Kirkjubraut 40 is open Monday to Thursday from 08:30 to 16:30 and on Fridays from 08:30 to 14:30. The Director of the office is Málfrídur Thorkelsdóttir.
  • In Vestmannaeyjar, the office at Strandvegur 51 is open between 10:00 and 12:00 and between 13:00 and 15:00. The Director of the office and Chairman of the VR Subdivision in Vestmannaeyjar is Gudrún Erlingsdóttir.
  • In Egilsstadir, the office at Kaupvangur 3B is open between 08:30 and 16:30. The Director of the Office and Chairman of the VR Subdivision in East Iceland is Kristín María Björnsdóttir.
