ASÍ Congress Concludes
The 46th congress of the Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASÍ) concluded on the afternoon of Friday, October 18. VR held around 90 seats at the congress, with a total of approximately 290 delegates in attendance. Resolutions were passed on many important issues affecting workers across the country, including high interest rates and indexation, resource and energy matters, public service, competition issues, and housing, to name a few. The leadership of the confederation was elected unopposed. Finnbjörn A. Hermannsson was elected president of ASÍ. Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson, chairman of the Commercial Federation of Iceland (LÍV) and VR, was elected first vice president. Hjördís Þóra Sigurþórsdóttir chairman of Afl was elected second vice president, and Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir chairman of Efling was elected third vice president.
