Birth grants available for members

VR members can now apply for a birth grant, and this is the first time VR has offered such a grant. The birth grant is ISK 100,000 per child born after 26 March 2026. The grant also applies to the adoption of children under the age of 18.

To be eligible for the grant, the parent must be on at least 75% parental leave. In addition, the parent must have been a full member of VR and must have paid membership fees to the Fund for 12 of the last 18 months prior to the child’s birth. The changes took effect as of 1 May 2026.

Please note: Applications for the birth grant are submitted via My Pages on the VR website. Only members for whom the Parental Leave Fund has remitted membership fees to VR will see the grant application on My Pages.
