Merger of VR subdvions in Southern Iceland

The VR South Iceland Division has commenced operations following the merger of two of the union's subdivisions, in Vestmannaeyjar and Southern Iceland. The merger was approved at the subdivisions‘ annual meetings in May, and the VR Board approved the working rules for the new subdivision at its meeting on June 12th.

The VR Subdivion in Vestmannaeyjar was established after the merger of VR and the Vestmannaeyjar Retail Workers' Union in 2007, and the VR Subdivisions in Southern Iceland was established after the merger of VR and the Southern Iceland Retail Workers' Union in 2017. About two thousand VR members are in the new subdivion. The aim of the merger is to further enhance services for members in the area.

There will be no change in the union's services; offices in Vestmannaeyjar and Selfoss will continue to operate in the same manner and provide the same services. The chairperson of the VR Southern Iceland Subdivision is Kolbrún Júlía Erlendsdóttir. The board consists of four main members in addition to the chairperson: Ásta Björk Ólafsdóttir, Jónas Yngvi Ásgrímsson, Ragna Steina Snæfells Lárudóttir, and Stefán Viðar Egilsson. Alternate members are Haraldur Pálsson, Drífa Kjartansdóttir, and Baldvin Nielsen. The board's term of office is four years.
