Recognition of Prior Learning now available for tourist guides
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) to shorten studies against the approved curriculum of the Tourist Guide School, which operates at Kópavogur Upper Secondary School, is now available. The conditions for RPL are that the individual is at least 23 years old, has three years of work experience in the field, and has completed the matriculation examination or equivalent education.
The first step in the process is to book an interview with an education and career counsellor at Mímir, who will review a screening checklist and assess whether the individual is eligible for the RPL assessment. The counsellor will also provide information on the documentation required for the RPL assessment and will then schedule a time for the possible RPL assessment.
- Interviews for the RPL assessment will be held during the period 19–29 May 2026.
- The RPL assessment will take place during the period 9–24 June 2026.
You can register for a screening interview here.
The cost of the RPL assessment in 2026 is ISK 235,000. RPL is eligible for a grant from the Vocational Training Fund for commercial and office employees. Applications for grants are submitted via My Pages at .vr.is
