Results of the VR Youth Council elections

The VR Youth Council elections, which ran from 5 May until noon today, Friday 8 May 2026, have now concluded. Those elected are Óbi Snær Barböruson, María Jesús Adjaba Nve, and Lijing Zhou. A total of six candidates ran.

The VR Board has also appointed three members to the Youth Council: Andrea Rut Pálsdóttir, Mateusz Gabríel Kowalczyk Róbertsson, and Styrmir Jökull Einarsson. The Council shall have equal gender representation.

The results are as follows:

Óbi Snær Barböruson received 32.48% of the votes cast.
María Jesús Adjaba Nve received 27.35% of the votes cast.
Lijing Zhou received 27.35% of the votes cast.
Jonathan Swerdlow received 22.65% of the votes cast.
Sarah Mohammedi received 21.37% of the votes cast.
Jayant Paudel received 10.68% of the votes cast.

A total of 234 votes were cast. There were 15,551 on the electoral roll. Voter turnout was therefore 1.5%.
