The Chicken or the Egg?

There are worrying signs in the economy, and all indications suggest that the assumptions underlying the collective agreements will fail this autumn. Inflation has been rising, unemployment has increased, and interest rates have gone up. The drivers of inflation are many and its composition is complex, but if progress is to be made in the fight against it, it is important to increase understanding of its nature and causes.

VR, LÍV and Fagfélögin are hosting an open meeting on Thursday, June 11, on inflation, prices and wages. At the meeting, Viðar Ingason, economist at VR, will discuss the relationship between inflation and wages, and Vilhjálmur Hilmarsson, economist at Viska, will discuss the most expensive country in the world, Iceland. In addition to Viðar and Vilhjálmur, a panel will include Henný Hinz, Deputy Director General of ASÍ, and Páll Gunnar Pálsson, Director General of the Icelandic Competition Authority. Halla Gunnarsdóttir, Leader of VR, will chair the meeting and moderate the panel discussion. Jakob Tryggvason, Chair of RSÍ, will deliver the opening address.

The meeting, titled The Chicken or the Egg?, will be held at venue of Fagfélögin at Stórhöfði 31 – entrance at the rear of the building. The venue opens at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast, the programme begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 9:45 a.m.
