VR Demands Answers from Politicians

VR has sent four questions to all political parties running for Alþingi in the upcoming elections and is requesting responses. The questions address each party’s stance on austerity and the actions they intend to take if given a mandate by the electorate. The parties have until Monday, November 18, to respond, and answers are already beginning to come in.

The responses will be published on VR’s website and social media platforms. The questions are listed below.

1. In your opinion, what are the most important measures to address the economic crisis and support households bearing the heaviest burdens of inflation and high-interest policies?
2. Do you believe there is a need to cut government spending, and if so, where should these cuts be implemented, and what amounts are involved?
3. How do you intend to ensure revenue for the national treasury to support essential infrastructure development, such as building roads, strengthening healthcare services across the country, and constructing nursing homes? Do you believe there is a need to increase taxes or fees on the general workforce?
4. Do you see a need to expand the powers of the State Conciliator or reduce the influence of unions, and if so, how?
