VR Reviews Preschool Policies in Hafnarfjörður
Halla Gunnarsdóttir, Leader of VR, recently visited Hafnarfjörður to learn about local preschool developments. In recent months, VR has actively addressed the extensive changes being proposed or implemented in preschools across many of the country's largest municipalities.
In Hafnarfjörður, the preschool environment has undergone changes over the past two years, and these changes have been made in cooperation with both parents and school staff. Valdimar Víðisson, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, and Kristín María Thoroddsen, Chair of the Education Council, presented these developments in a meeting with VR, and we extend our thanks to them.
“It was valuable to visit Hafnarfjörður and learn about the improvements made to the preschool work environment in recent years. What stands out is that Hafnarfjörður has not chosen to increase fees for parents in an effort to control children’s attendance hours. It is clear that the interests and needs of parents have been taken into account. Once again, we encourage municipalities to consider alternatives to fee increases as a way to improve already good preschools,”
says Halla Gunnarsdóttir.
