We demand!

VR, LÍV and Fagfélögin have joined forces and are addressing the government, the municipalities and companies in the country in a new campaign. All signs indicate that collective agreements may unravel this autumn, with unpredictable consequences. Wage earners have borne the brunt of persistent inflation, high interest rates and rising unemployment. Everything keeps getting more expensive – and wage earners cannot keep up.

The unions demand that everyone contribute to correcting the situation – companies that determine prices, the government which has the means to intervene in housing matters, and the municipalities which must correct their tariffs. We demand that promises be kept. These are the demands:

Return requirements of large companies be reduced

Large companies in the country — including wholesalers, retailers and financial companies — that have price-setting effects must lower their return requirements for at least two years.

Tariffs corrected and preschools protected

We demand that recent tariff increases by municipalities, especially for heating, electricity and preschool fees, be withdrawn and that public tariffs be frozen for the duration of collective agreements. Municipalities must cease their attack on public preschools.

Price increases on domestic goods stopped

The causes of price increases on domestic food products must be analyzed and measures taken to stop them.

Child and housing benefits

Support must be provided to those groups bearing the heaviest burdens in the current economic situation through child benefits, housing benefits and interest benefits. Benefits must keep pace with prices.

Realistic proposals in housing matters

The state and municipalities must work together to bring stability to housing matters. Speculation with building plots must be stopped and it must be ensured that Bjarg receives buildable plots now and in the future.
