VR is seeking young people to join the union’s Youth Council, with elections to be held in May. Six VR members aged 18 to 35 sit on the Youth Council. The VR Board appoints three, and young VR members elect three others. We are now calling for candidates, and the application deadline is noon on April 28.

The Annual General Meeting of VR, held in Reykjavík on 25 March 2026, expresses serious concern about the state of economic affairs. All indications are that the premises of the collective agreements will fail this autumn, and little progress has been made in overcoming persistent inflation.
The Annual General Meeting of VR, held on Wednesday evening, 25 March 2026, approved a resolution expressing serious concern about the state of economic affairs and calling on the authorities to bring parties together for a solution-oriented dialogue on the way forward in a difficult situation. The meeting also approved amendments to the union’s laws, as well as changes to the operations and services of the VR Sick Pay Fund in light of its difficult financial position.

Proposed amendments to the regulations of the VR Sick Pay Fund will be presented at the union’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 25 March. The aim of these changes is to respond to the fund’s deteriorating financial position and enable it to meet its obligations.

Full members of VR have the option to purchase the Fishing Card and the Camping Card for summer 2026. The Fishing Card provides near-unlimited access to numerous lake areas across the country. A handbook comes with each card, containing instructions and rules. The card costs ISK 6,400, and each full member of VR may purchase one card.

The general election among VR members for the VR Board for the 2026–2027 term, which began at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 6, 2025, concluded at 12:00 noon today, Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The elections for the Board of VR for the 2026–2027 term, which ran from 5 March until 12:00 noon on 12 March 2026, have now concluded. 2739 votes were cast. There were a total of 40,785 VR members on the electoral roll. Voter turnout was therefore 6,7%.
The Annual General Meeting of VR 2026 will be held on Wednesday, 25 March at 19:30 at Hótel Reykjavík Grand. The meeting will be both in-person and on-line. Please register before 12:00 noon on the day of the meeting.
