On January 27, 1891, the Reykjavík Union of Commerce, VR, was founded at a meeting in the restaurant Hermes at Lækjargata. The building is now located at Árbæjarsafn. This year, VR celebrates its 130th anniversary.

From the VR board on vaccination priorities
The VR board welcomes the lifting of the masks mandate in stores, and elsewhere, but would like to remind everyone that a large proportion of retail staff are young people who are still unvaccinated and are therefore once again put in the position of being most at risk of infection of Covid-19.
Don’t forget your holiday bonus
In 2021 the holiday bonus for VR members is ISK 52,000 for those working a full-time job, and is to be paid out on June 1st. A full-time job is 45 weeks worked in 100% work excluding holiday time during the holiday reference year from 1 May 2020 to 30 April 2021.

VR offers members a subsidy on accommodation costs
VR offers its members a subsidy for domestic accommodation costs during the summer of 2021. VR pays members grants so that the bill for domestic accommodation is subsidized by 70% but to a maximum of ISK 10,000. for each member. This is offered temporarily due to COVID-19.
