1 May 2026

VR encourages all members to turn out in large numbers for the marches and outdoor rallies to mark International Workers’ Day on 1 May.

VR Family Run at Klambratún

In Reykjavík, we’ll warm up for the march with an easy run and a programme for the whole family at Klambratún. The singer and entertainer Jónsi will host the programme, which starts at 11:30. The singer Hildur Magnúsdóttir will perform a few songs.

Íþróttaálfurinn will lead the warm-up for the run, which is a 1.5 km route around the park. Participation is free, and all participants receive a medal.

Cheese rolls, juice and soft drinks will be available, and Circus Iceland will be on site.

Everyone is welcome!

March and workers’ coffee in Reykjavík

In Reykjavík, we will gather for the march at Skólavörðuholt at 13:00, and we will walk there from Klambratún with Jónsi and the Labour Brass Band leading the way. The march then sets off at 13:30.

The outdoor rally will begin at Ingólfstorg at around 14:00, and the speaker of the day is Halla Gunnarsdóttir, Leader of VR. See the programme here.

VR will host its annual workers’ coffee for members in the foyer of Laugardalshöll at 14:30, following the outdoor rally.

A more detailed programme in Reykjavík and in other VR membership areas will be advertised later.

See you on 1 May!
