Seminar for VR Members – Equality and Discrimination in the Labour Market

November 26 10:00–11:30

Instructors: Anna Lilja Björnsdóttir and Bryndís Elfa Valdemarsdóttir, specialists at the Directorate of Equality

This seminar addresses the topics of equality and discrimination in the labour market. It covers the responsibilities of employers and the rights of employees according to the Gender Equality Act. The workshop also explores the origins and effects of discrimination, and where to turn in cases of discrimination.

The purpose of the seminar is to deepen participants’ understanding of equality legislation and anti-discrimination laws, and to raise awareness about personal attitudes, unconscious bias, and the impact of discrimination. Workplaces that prioritise equality are more likely to attract a diverse workforce, increase employee satisfaction, reduce turnover, and boost productivity.

Anna Lilja Björnsdóttir holds a master’s degree in Human Resource Management and a postgraduate diploma in Practical Gender Studies from the University of Iceland. Bryndís Elfa Valdemarsdóttir holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and a postgraduate diploma in Multiculturalism and Migration from the University of Iceland. Both are specialists at the Directorate of Equality.

The seminar takes place in the VR hall on the 9th floor of the Hús verslunarinnar, Kringlan 7. It is also possible to attend via Teams. Please select the option that suits you above.

Upon registration, an email will be sent to the email address you have registered with VR. You can view your registered email on My Pages at vr.is.
