Elections 2026

The elections for the Board of VR for the 2026–2027 term, which ran from 5 March until 12:00 noon on 12 March 2026, have now concluded. 2739 votes were cast. There were a total of 40,785 VR members on the electoral roll. Voter turnout was therefore 6,7%.

The results of the elections are as follows:

These individuals are therefore duly elected in accordance with Article 20 of the union’s rules, and their term of office will begin at the annual general meeting for the year 2026, which will be held on 25 March.

How to vote

To vote, click the button above and log in using your electronic ID. The ballot will open in a new browser window with instructions on how to cast your vote.

If you do not yet have an electronic ID, you can apply for one at audkenni.is or through your bank.

It is important to note that the allocation of board seats is based on the zipper system, meaning men and women are alternated in order on the list. See more in Article 20 of the VR bylaws.

Who is eligible to vote?

All full members of VR are eligible to vote in the election. The electoral register also includes retired members who receive an old-age pension and have been continuous members of the union for at least five years prior to retirement.

Information for eligible VR voters

All eligible members will receive an email with information on how to vote. This information will also be available here on the VR website, and announcements will be published on VR's web and social media platforms.

If you have not received a ballot but believe you are eligible to vote, you may contact the VR Election Committee by email at kjorstjorn@vr.is or by mail at: VR Election Committee, Hús verslunarinnar, Kringlan 7, 103 Reykjavík no later than the close of the election at 12:00 noon on March 12.

The Election Committee encourages members who wish to file an appeal to be added to the voter registry to do so no later than two hours before the polls close.
