Experience in Union Work

As a board member of VR, I have participated in various committees, including the Education and Training Committee, the Collective Bargaining Committee, and the Housing Committee. I care deeply about education and training, and I want to see more opportunities for people to continue their education. It's important that collective agreements give workers greater flexibility to pursue further education during working hours.

Housing issues, especially for young people, are also a top concern of mine, and I’ve worked on those through the Housing Committee. I also serve on the boards of the Household Interest Group (Hagsmunasamtök heimilanna) and HMS (Housing and Construction Authority). As a board member living outside the capital area, I have consistently pointed out the unequal access to services faced by members who live in rural areas.

Other union-related involvement includes being a member of Lions Club and Oddfellow.

Key Focus Areas

Better conditions for low-income workers. Shorter workweek and 30 days of vacation, equal to what is standard in the public sector — this is a matter of fairnes. Continued development of vocational education is essential, especially in light of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Fighting inflation and high interest rates is the most important economic issue. The root cause of inflation is not wage increases, but rather corporate greed and excessive profits. Wage earners should not carry the burden alone — capital owners must also contribute

The past few years have been a valuable learning experience. Serving on the board of a union is hard work but incredibly rewarding. The decisions made at the board level affect many lives, so we must act with responsibility and care.

I am asking for your support, fellow VR member, so I can continue this important work — on your behalf and with your trust.
