Experience in Union Work

I have eight years of experience in human resources. I was part of a professional group on health-promoting workplaces organized by Stjórnvísi, focusing on workplace wellness and education.
I’m a sociable person and have served as chair of employee associations both in my current and previous workplaces, where I’ve organized events and helped build stronger workplace culture.

Over the years, I’ve also had a close working relationship with VR, particularly regarding collective agreements and employee rights.

Key Focus Areas

I am running for the VR board because I want to contribute to improving the conditions of VR members and take an active role in the important work of the union.

In my role as an HR manager, I see firsthand just how critical labor unions are in the workplace. But I also believe there’s room for improvement. The grant system should be reviewed — for example, parental grants should be a standard part of the benefits. VR should do more to support members’ mental health, for instance by offering grants for psychological services. That way, we can help prevent people from dropping out of the workforce.

We must protect sick leave rights, which are a fundamental part of employee security. At the same time, it’s important to listen to employers’ concerns and ensure the system is fair, based on mutual trust, and sustainable.

Finally, I want to increase member engagement and boost participation in elections and union activities.
