Experience in Union Work
I have always been active in community and union work. I served on the class council of Borgarskóli (2006–2009) and on the board of the Árbær School Parents' Association (2009–2013), first as a board member and later as chair. For the past 10 years, I have served as a board member of VR. In the past two years, I have sat on the following VR committees:Wage Committee, Equality and Human Rights Committee, Executive Board of the Dispute Fund, Nominations Committee for board selection at LIVE, Alternate member of the VR Holiday Fund Executive Board, Alternate member of the Equality and Human Rights Committee. I was an alternate in ASÍ’s central board from 2018–2020. I also have extensive experience in wage and collective bargaining issues through my 18 years of working closely with VR's wage affairs officers and other unions.
I strongly believe that the VR board benefits from members who have in-depth experience in HR, payroll, and collective bargaining matters, which I bring. I'm eager to continue contributing this experience to VR, alongside my 10 years of experience in the board.
Key Focus Areas
- Increased purchasing power – we must protect wage increases from being directly offset by rising prices.
- Equity in wage increases – ensuring that no group is left behind. VR serves a broad and diverse membership, and we must work equally for all, regardless of income, age, gender, or nationality.
- Continue the fight for better housing, with a focus on making first-time home buying more accessible and improving the rental market.
- More opportunities for continuing education, such as allowing members to earn the right to take educational leave on regular pay after a set period.
- Flexible retirement options, allowing older workers to reduce their working hours before fully retiring.
- Making VR a national union, as this promotes greater equality and efficiency.
Finally, it's crucial to listen to the wishes of our members in order to improve the union. I am ready to continue working on these important and demanding tasks — for you.
