Experience in Union Work
I have nearly 20 years of experience as a shop steward. I am a member of the VR Consultative Council and the Cpouncil of Representatives of Lífeyrissjóður verzlunarmanna (the Pension Fund for Commerce. I have served on the board of the Staff Association of Suðurnes (STFS) and have participated in general assemblies of ASÍ and LÍV.
I also participated in a working group for the competency mapping of service representative roles for the vocational training fund for commercial and office workers. This experience has provided me with a solid foundation to advocate for continued improvements and the well-being of all VR members.
Key Focus Areas
My goal is to make VR a leading force in the fight for the rights and welfare of all its members, regardless of age, profession, or background. I aim to advocate for:
- Equality in the workplace, where all members enjoy the same rights and opportunities
- Shortening of the workweek and the development of flexible work arrangements that reflect the changing needs of society and ensure better work-life balance+
- Increased support for lifelong learning and continuing education, enabling members to meet technological changes and future challenges in the job market
- Improved wages and working conditions, with a focus on ensuring that compensation reflects real contributions and supports a decent standard of living
- Greater access to mental health support, including increased financial assistance for psychological services, to promote mental well-being
I place strong emphasis on ensuring that decisions made by the VR board are grounded in the real experiences of members and that the voices of union reps and workers are clearly heard in shaping the union’s future.
I am convinced that with a united effort, we can build a society where everyone is valued and no one is left behind.
I kindly ask for your support in continuing this important work.
