To mark the Year of Women 2025, VR is releasing a podcast series in which Halla Gunnarsdóttir, Leader of VR, speaks with VR women working in various jobs. Fifty years have passed since the first women's strike on 24 October 1975, when Icelandic women left both paid and unpaid work for a day, and society came to a halt. This year is dedicated to women and their participation in society.
The aim of the podcast is to shed light on the diverse roles that women hold within VR and to provide insight into their experiences in the labour market. Much has improved over the past half-century, but there is still a long way to go before women and men stand on equal footing in the labour market. The VR podcast is one way to increase the visibility of women and further strengthen the conversation around their rights and freedoms.
The podcast is in Icelandic only, please refer to the Icelandic page for further information.
