A new gas cylinder can be obtained in a locked cabinet located by the containers. The cottage key works for the cabinet.
Arrival and departure times
- The winter period for holiday cottages is from 31 August to 28 May. Arrival time is at 16:00 and departure time is at 12:00, except Sundays at 19:00.
- The summer period is from 29 May to 30 August. During the summer period, the arrival time is at 17:00 and departure time is at 12:00, except Sundays at 19:00.
Rules of Conduct in VR’s summer cottages
- The cottage is rented with furniture, kitchenware and other fittings.
- The lessee is responsible for all the contents of the cottage during the rental period and undertakes to pay compensation for any damages that may be caused by the lessee or those who reside in the cottage with their permission during the rental period.
- The lessee must treat the cottage and its surroundings in a proper manner, clean the cottage on departure and make sure that all items are in their proper place.

- The lessee must arrive for their stay in the cottage on the handover date (further information in the lease agreement).
- The lessee must provide their own towels, soap, tea towels and bedding (duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases).
- Guests are requested avoid excessive noise from car traffic in the summer cottage area.
- The lessee must conduct themself properly in the area and take care not to damage vegetation or the land in any manner.
The surroundings
There is a sandbox at each cottage. There are also four playgrounds with swings, a slide and a seesaw. A small football area, basketball courts and mini golf are in the area. New equipment has been installed in the area, an air bouncer, a zip-line and frisbee golf. In the vicinity of Miðhúsaskógur are Laugarvatn and Úthlíð, where you can find extensive services.
