South Iceland

South Iceland is unique and the part of Iceland that the vast majority of tourists visit. In the South, everyone, both young and old, can find something suitable for recreation and entertainment. The nature here is magnificent, with beautiful waterfalls and hot springs erupting with boiling water and volcanoes with fire and ash.

Here, history is present in every footstep, both ancient and new; this is the site of the Icelandic parliament at Þingvellir, the setting of Njála and the residence of the Icelandic bishops in Skálholt. South Iceland has artistic creation, culture and a flourishing economy and community, interesting museums, history centres, galleries and handicraft galleries, to name but a few. For those who want to enjoy the day outdoors, there is good angling in rivers and lakes, great golf courses and swimming pools and last but not least, beautiful hiking trails for those who really want to enjoy the outdoors.
