Annual General Meeting Approves Merger with Leiðsögn
The Annual General Meeting of VR, held on the evening of Wednesday, 26 March 2025, approved the board's proposal for a merger with Leiðsögn – Tourist Guide Union. Leiðsögn has also approved the merger on its part, and the aim is for the unions to merge as of 30 April 2025.
In the electronic vote at the meeting, 61.6% of attendees voted yes, or 85, while 33.3%, or 46, voted no. A total of 7, or 5.1%, abstained. A simple majority was required for approval.
The merger has been in preparation for some time, with negotiations ongoing for a while. In mid-2024, an agreement on the merger was signed. Approval has now been granted by VR’s Annual General Meeting, and VR members in Leiðsögn approved the merger in a general vote earlier this month, with 94.5% of the votes cast in favour.
VR took over the operations of Leiðsögn last year and has since provided collective bargaining-related services to tourist guides. A tourist guide division will be established within VR.
