Economic Necessity or Political Ideology?
On September 17th, VR will host a symposium on austerity, marking the centenary since this controversial policy was systematically introduced in Iceland for the first time.
Clara Mattei, Professor of Economics, who has written extensively on the origins and development of austerity, and Ásgeir Brynjar Torfason, editor of Vísbending, will deliver lectures. A panel of experts will discuss the impact of the policy on Icelandic society and the labor market. In addition to Ásgeir Brynjar, the panel will include Sigríður Ingibjörg Ingadóttir, Economist at BSRB, Stefán Ólafsson, Professor Emeritus and sSpecialist at Efling, Steinunn Bragadóttir, Economist at ASÍ, and Sveinn Máni Jóhannesson, Historian. Halla Gunnarsdóttir, Vice-Chair of VR, will moderate the event.
The symposium will take place in VR´s hall on the 9th floor at Hús verslunarinnar, Tuesday, September 17th. Doors open at 13:30. Don't miss this interesting event!
