Elections for the VR Board and Consultative Council are coming up. The term of office this time is one year, 2026–2027. Elections will take place in the first half of March, with calls for candidacies for the Board published at the beginning of February, and for the Consultative Council in the latter part of January.

At one of the many meetings on housing issues I attended in 2025, a ministry employee remarked on a noticeable change in university students visiting the Government Offices on academic field trips. Previously, the students’ excitement over the refreshments had somewhat overshadowed their interest in the topics at hand—but not anymore. Young people now arrive full of burning questions about housing and relentlessly grill their hosts.

Dear VR members, please note that VR's offices will be closed on Christmas Eve, December 24, and New Year's Eve, December 31. Otherwise, the offices will be open between Christmas and New Year. The VR office in Selfoss will be closed on January 2.

Grant Payments Before the New Year

VR members, please note that grants from VR funds will be paid out before the end of the year, but the application deadline for all the union's funds was December 10.

Did you get your December wage bonus?

A special December wage bonus shall be paid no later than 15 December, each year, according to VR's collective wage agreement. The December wage bonus amount for 2025, for a full-time job, is ISK 110,000.
