VR presented the results of their annual Company of the Year survey at a well-attended reception in Harpa concert hall on 23 May 2024. The chairman of VR, Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson, Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and Einar Þorsteinsson, the mayor of Reykjavík, presented awards to the top-performing firms.

According to the council's rules of procedure 6 members sit on the council, the Board of VR appoints three while members aged 16 - 35 elect three.

Don’t forget your holiday bonus

In 2024 the holiday bonus for VR members is ISK 58,000 for those working a full-time job, and is to be paid out on June 1st. A full-time job is 45 weeks worked in 100% work excluding holiday time during the holiday reference year from 1 May 2023 to 30 April 2024.

VR is looking for young people to join the union´s Youth Council, but elections to the council will be held in May. The Youth Council consists of six VR members from the age of 18 to 35. The Board of VR appoints three, but members elect three others. We are looking for candidates but deadline for candidacy is to 16 May.

All VR offices close at 12:00 noon today, Monday 6 May 2024 due to a staff training day. This also applies to all VR's offices, i.e. Reykjavík, Vestmannaeyjar, Reykjanesbær, Selfoss, Egilsstaðir and Akranes.

Election to the VR Council of Representatives for the Pension Fund of Commerce

At the VR Consultative Council meeting held on Monday, 29 April 2024, 10 council members were appointed to the VR Council of Representative for the Pension Fund of Commerce. According to Article 3 of the rules for the Council of Representatives, the gender distribution must be equal, and five men and five women were elected.

Democracy at work is long overdue

A challenge to the leadership of unions in Iceland to accept its call for greater democracy at work was passed at a meeting held by VR for representatives of the labor union movement on 18 April. Real democracy is a prerequisite for people, companies, institutions, and society to flourish, the resolution of the meeting states.

Registration Opens for the Blær Waitlist

Registration for VR members on the waitlist for Blær rental apartments has opened. It is possible to register on the list until June 16th on My Pages at vr.is. Blær is a housing foundation managed by VR, offering rental apartments for members at Silfratjörn in Úlfarsárdal.

Voting on a new Icelandair wage agreement

Voting on VR's new special wage agreement with SA, The Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise, on behalf of Icelandair's domestic flights begins at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 11, 2024 and ends at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, April 16. All members of VR who work according to this agreement have the right to vote.
