Annual Meeting of the Tourist Guides Division Postponed

Due to worsening weather conditions and warnings from the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the annual meeting of the Tourist Guides Division within VR, which was scheduled for 28 October, has been postponed. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 4 at 20:00. It will take place both in person and online.

VR office in Reykjavík closed due to weather

VR has decided to close its office in Reykjavík earlier today, Tuesday, October 28, due to the weather. Most of VR's services are available online, and service is also provided by phone at 510 1700, by email at vr@vr.is, and through the union’s Facebook page. All inquiries will be answered as quickly as possible during the office’s opening hours, until 16:00.

Women at VR offices are going on strike

VR members, please note that due to a women's strike tomorrow, Friday, 24th of October 2025, VR services will be limited when women at VR offices go on strike. Expect delays in service and responses on this day. VR offices in Akranes, Egilsstaðir, Reykjanesbær, Selfossi and Vestmannaeyjar will be closed tomorrow.

Cancer screening saves lives

We would like to remind you that everyone has the right to access healthcare services, including cancer screening. Cancer screenings are extremely important, and women aged 23 to 64 receive invitations for cervical screenings.

VR Members Choose the VR Contingency Fund

The results of the vote on the grant structure at VR are now in. The majority of voting VR members 63.47% chose the VR Contingency Fund. 32.84% voted for the traditional grant system, and 3.69% did not take a position. A total of 7,241 votes were cast, with a voter turnout of 16.16%.

Renewal of Annual Fee for the Blær Housing Association

It is now time to renew the annual fee for the Blær Housng Association. This applies to those who joined the waiting list when registration opened in April 2024 or later. An email has been sent to those concerned. To maintain your place on the waiting list, log in to Mínar síður and click on “Pay annual fee for the Blær Housing Association.” The annual fee is ISK 2,900.

Incentivized Punishment by the City of Reykjavík

On the same day that Varða – the Labour Market Research Institute – presented the results of a new study on the “Kópavogur Model” in preschool policy, the City of Reykjavík unveiled proposals based on the same ideology. The idea is to tackle challenges in preschools by reducing children’s attendance hours, using price controls to do so.
