Statement from the Board of VR union

VR criticizes the intervention of the State Conciliation and Mediation Officer in the wage dispute between Efling union and the Confederation of Icelandic Employers (SA). By submitting an untimely mediation proposal, the State conciliation and Mediation Officer has denied a union the use of strike action it has already begun voting on.

A mediation proposal is an emergency remedy for the resolution of a wage dispute. It is important that trade unions and employers have the opportunity to work towards a solution and to use the means available to them. VR demands that the bargaining rights of trade unions be respected and calls on the State Conciliation and Mediation Officer to withdraw his proposal.
