Statement from the board of VR regarding the privatization of Íslandsbanki
The board of VR believes the ongoing privatization of Íslandsbanki to be an indictment of those involved in the process. The Icelandic government decided to sell its shares in Íslandsbanki against the public’s will and is ultimately responsible for the result.
VR web chat well received
VR launched a web chat on its website, vr.is, earlier this year. This new service has been extremely well received by members, the chat has seen over 1900 inquiries since it opened.
The Nordic Capital Conference for Commercial Unions
The Nordic Captial Conference for Commercial Unions finished today, on Thursday, June 8th. The conference is an annual event which rotates between Nordic capitals and this year it was VR‘s turn to host. Approximately 25 delegates from commercial unions in Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm attended the conference in Reykjavík and visited VR‘s offices during the two-day even
New chairman of VR subdivision in South Iceland
Kolbrún Júlía Erlendsdóttir was elected chairman of VR‘s subdivision in South Iceland on May 31st 2023, at the division‘s annual general meeting. Kolbrún has worked for VR since 2017, first in workplace inspection and then in the union‘s Department of Employment Terms.
The VR camping site is now open
The VR camping site in Miðhúsaskógur is now open. Members book a camping space on VR´s Holiday website (Orlofsvefur VR), where you can also see a map of the area. Each camping space is numbered, look for Tjaldstæði in the list.
Median Wages of VR members ISK 768,000 in February 2023
VR publishes information about its member’s wages twice a year. The median total salaries of VR members were ISK 768,000 per month in February 2023. Median base salaries were ISK 759,000.
The Camping Card is now available
VR members in good standing can now purchase the Camping Card for the summer of 2023.
Don’t forget your holiday bonus
In 2023 the holiday bonus for VR members is ISK 56,000 for those working a full-time job, and is to be paid out on June 1st. A full-time job is 45 weeks worked in 100% work excluding holiday time during the holiday reference year from 1 May 2022 to 30 April 2023.

The Global Union LGBTI Workers' International Symposium will be held electronically on May 17. The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) is celebrated every year on 17 May.
VR supports strike action by BSRB
The Board of VR declares its full support for the strike actions of members of BSRB, the largest federation of public worker unions in Iceland. BSRB members demand equality, the same wages as other workers for the same or similar work
Company of the Year 2023
VR presented the results of their annual Company of the Year survey at a well-attended reception in Harpa concert hall on 10 May 2023. The chairman of VR, Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson and Ásmundur Einar Daðason, Minister of Education and Children, presented awards to the top-performing firms.
